A heavy downpour struck Valladolid on Tuesday evening, overwhelming the 112 emergency call center of Castile and León with over a hundred calls in just one hour. Between 7:00 PM and 8:00 PM, a total of 136 emergency calls were received, all related to the rains in Valladolid. Within just thirty minutes, up to 16 liters per square meter fell, leading to significant problems. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported so far, but the impact on the infrastructure was immense.

Dramatic Scenes in Tunnels and Underpasses
Tunnels and lower areas of the city center were particularly affected. Several important traffic arteries such as the Andromeda, Panaderos, and San Isidro tunnels were completely flooded. In the San Isidro tunnel, a vehicle was even trapped by the water. Also, in the Plaza Circular tunnel and on Mieses Street, two people were stuck in their vehicles, unable to get out due to the masses of water. Such events once again show how quickly bad weather in Spain can lead to dangerous situations.
Flooded Streets and Private Properties
The city center also resembled a lake: Social networks were full of images and videos of flooded streets such as Plaza de Portugalete, Cantarranas, and Prado de la Magadalena. In the districts of Pajarillos and San Juan, there were also significant problems on public roads, especially on Don Sancho Street and Paseo de Juan Carlos Primero, which were submerged.
Numerous garages in Valladolid were flooded, and firefighters were busy pumping out the water. Commercial premises, house entrances, and private homes were also affected by water ingress and leaks. In none of the reported cases was medical attention required.
Impact on Public Transport and Weather Warnings
The municipal bus company Auvasa announced after 7:00 PM that due to the heavy rainfall in Valladolid, there might be changes to the usual bus routes.
The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) had already issued a yellow warning for Valladolid on Monday for storms and rainfall, which could bring up to 15 liters per square meter. However, given the dramatic development, the warning level was raised to orange around 7:30 PM, as there was a significant risk for the period between 7:00 PM and 9:00 PM. These events underscore the importance of breaking news and early warning systems for extreme weather conditions in Spain.
