Demographic Shift: More Women Than Men Reach Old Age
Among the nearly 400 centenarians in Valencia, women significantly outnumber men: 298 of those over 100 years old are female, while 98 men have reached this advanced age. This distribution reflects the general demographic trend that women, on average, have a higher life expectancy. Valencia’s total population currently stands at 844,424 inhabitants, of whom 442,750 are women and 401,674 are men.
Valencia’s Population Structure: A Look at Age Groups
The average age in Valencia is 44.8 years, with the 45-49 age group being the most numerous. The city also records a considerable number of young residents: 108,288 children are under 16 years old. At the same time, there is a growing senior population with 180,624 people aged 65 and over, which highlights the need for age-appropriate infrastructure and services.
Districts and Neighborhoods: Where Valencia’s Population Lives
Quatre Carreres proves to be Valencia’s most populous district with 83,333 registered residents. Notably, there is a high number of 1,013 over 90-year-olds, including 703 women and 310 men. The Benicalap neighborhood in the district of the same name is the most densely populated. At the other end of the spectrum is Pobles del Nord with only 7,180 inhabitants and 110 over 90-year-olds. The rural center of Mauella, a former Muslim farmhouse, is the smallest urban core in Valencia and is home to only 60 people (31 men and 29 women).
