Córdoba, Spain – The ongoing heatwave in Andalusia has claimed its first tragic victim. A 58-year-old man died on Saturday in Córdoba due to heatstroke. The man was working outdoors, installing a neon sign, directly exposing him to the extreme temperatures.

Details of the Incident and Victim’s Health

As confirmed by the Ministry of Health on Sunday, the 58-year-old, who suffered from pre-existing conditions, was admitted to Reina Sofía Hospital in Córdoba on Saturday. Despite all medical efforts, he passed away in the early evening. This fatality marks the first heatstroke-related death in Andalusia this season.

Rise in Heatstroke Cases and Extreme Temperatures

Since the activation of the extreme temperature protocol on May 16, eight heatstroke cases have been registered in the municipality of Andalusia. The Córdoba Aeropuerto weather station recorded peak temperatures of 40.4 degrees Celsius on Saturday. This was the third consecutive day that the 40-degree mark was exceeded, highlighting the dangerous conditions during this heatwave.

Given the persistent extreme temperatures in Spain, it is crucial to take official warnings seriously and implement protective measures. Especially individuals who must work outdoors should take regular breaks, stay well-hydrated, and protect themselves from direct sunlight to prevent further tragic incidents.
