The National Police have arrested eight people in the Canary Islands, including three police officers, including Inspector Francisco Moar, who initiated the investigation into the mediator’s case for alleged corruption and is now retired.
Sources familiar with the investigation informed the EFE news agency of these arrests. The operation, which is still ongoing, is being conducted by the Internal Affairs Department under the direction of a court in Arona, Tenerife, which has classified the proceedings as secret.
The detainees are accused of various offenses, including drug trafficking, money laundering, forming a criminal organization, bribery, and document forgery.
One of the three police officers is still on active duty, while the other two, including Moar, are retired. Moar was previously Chief Inspector of the Provincial Brigade of the Criminal Investigation Department of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
He was removed from the mediation process after reporting the theft of mobile phones from which messages, conversations, and data relevant to this investigation were extracted.
The decision to remove him was made by the then Chief of Police of the Province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Luis Felipe San MartÃn, who has since been suspended from duty after a complaint was filed against him for a crime of sexist violence against his partner.
The complaint against the Chief Inspector was filed personally by Francisco Moar, as he had access to a USB stick containing a video of the victim.
