The heat creeps into Spain this weekend

Summer is just around the corner. This was confirmed on Thursday by Rubén del Campo, spokesperson for the Spanish Meteorological Service (Aemet). He reported that a significant rise in temperatures is expected next week, making temperatures almost summery. According to the expert, the mercury could reach 35°C in some regions in the south of the peninsula by midweek, while eltiempo.es estimates even predict temperatures around 40°C. The rise in temperatures will be noticeable starting this weekend, but before that, Spain will experience one last episode of instability in May. In fact, eleven provinces in six autonomous communities will be on alert for rain and storms this Friday.

The Spanish Meteorological Service (Aemet) has activated yellow warnings for rain and storms for this Friday in the provinces of Almería, Córdoba, Granada, Jaén, Seville, Albacete, Murcia, Alicante, and Valencia. In the Andalusian provinces, between 15 and 20 liters of water per square meter are expected to accumulate within an hour, as are Albacete and Murcia. However, in northern Alicante and southern Valencia, up to 30 liters per square meter could fall in one hour. In some places along the coast, rainfall could reach up to 40 to 50 liters over a period of three to four hours.

The highest meteorological authority activated the yellow alert level for coastal phenomena for Menorca and Girona on Friday. Wind speeds of 40 to 60 kilometers per hour and wave heights of between two and four meters are expected on the Balearic island. In the Catalan province, wind speeds of 50 to 60 kilometers per hour and waves of between two and three meters are expected.

The regions most affected by rain on Friday will be the south of the Valencian Community, the Region of Murcia, the Balearic Islands, eastern Andalusia, and Castile-La Mancha. Light rain will also be seen in the Bay of Biscay, Catalonia, and certain parts of Aragon. In summary, Friday will be very cloudy in the east of the peninsula. The west will be partly cloudy, as will the north of the Canary Islands. The south of the archipelago will be sunny. Temperatures in the south of the peninsula and the Balearic Islands will drop slightly, according to Meteored.

A weekend of rising temperatures
On Saturday, slightly cloudy and clear skies will prevail in most parts of the peninsula and the Balearic Islands. However, the Cantabrian Sea and the northeast of the country will remain very cloudy. In the Canary Islands, the weather will be similar to the previous day: cloudy skies in the north and clear skies in the south of the archipelago. Furthermore, daytime temperatures will rise significantly. In cities such as Madrid, Zaragoza, Lleida, Albacete, and Toledo, temperatures will exceed 25 degrees Celsius, while around 32 degrees Celsius are expected in Seville. The yellow alert for coastal phenomena will remain in place for the island of Menorca and the Catalan province of Girona.

On Sunday, stability will prevail throughout Spain, except for the areas near the Bay of Biscay, where light rain is possible. Temperatures will continue to rise throughout the country. In some provincial capitals such as Madrid, Badajoz, Albacete, and Huelva, temperatures are even expected to exceed 30 degrees Celsius. In the Cantabrian Sea and on the Canary Islands, temperatures will be little changed compared to the previous day. Winds will be light in most parts of the country, while they may be moderate to strong in the Strait of Gibraltar and the Canary Islands.
