Madrid’s ambulance service assisted a total of 269 runners during the three races held in the Spanish capital this Sunday – the marathon, half marathon, and 10 kilometers. Twenty-seven of the participants required hospitalization, but no serious cases were reported.
In a statement released on Sunday by the ambulance service, it was emphasized that most of the hospital transfers were due to dizziness, overexertion, and heat.
The runners received assistance at various locations set up as part of the 47th edition of the Zurich Rock ‘n’ Roll Running Series Madrid. There were three advanced health posts throughout the city, as well as teams of health professionals monitoring the area by bicycle, motorcycle, and on foot.

In this context, the supervisor on duty has determined that more than 170 health professionals will be deployed throughout the city, particularly at three central health posts: the Casa de Campo, Plaza Colón, and the finish line near the Palacio de Cibeles.
Carlos Sánchez, head of SAMUR’s Civil Protection Unit, explained on Friday that this deployment is “one of the largest that SAMUR deploys in Madrid all year round.” The most sensitive point is the finish line, as this is the point at which most runners “faint or experience dizziness.”
