The Most Important First Step: Dial 112

  • Central Emergency Number:112
    • This is your first choice in any emergency situation in Spain and throughout the European Union.
    • The call is free of charge, even from blocked or foreign mobile phones.
    • It even works without phone signal (as long as a connection to another network is possible).
    • 112 connects you to a centralized dispatch system that will assess your situation and immediately dispatch the necessary emergency services:
      • Ambulance (ambulancia)
      • Fire Department (bomberos)
      • Police (policía) – both National Police and Guardia Civil

Specific Emergencies and the Appropriate Numbers:

  • Medical Emergencies:061
    • Dial this number for urgent medical situations when someone is seriously ill or injured and requires immediate medical assistance or an ambulance transport.
  • Fire Emergencies:
    • Primary: Always dial 112 first.
