A married couple is set to face trial this Thursday in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, on severe charges. The prosecution is seeking a 42-year prison sentence for the man and woman, who are accused of jointly and repeatedly raping their two minor daughters and producing pornographic images of them. This harrowing case, which occurred in the Canary Islands, has caused widespread outrage across the country.
Detailed Charges
According to the public prosecutor’s office, the sexual assaults took place between October 2019 and June 2022. The defendants, identified as B.A.L.P., the father of one of the girls, and T.N.L.M., the mother of the other child, allegedly not only committed the acts but also recorded them in photo and video images. Investigations revealed that defendant B.A.L.P. additionally stored over 200 files containing similar pornographic material involving other, as yet unidentified, minors.
The evidence, including images seized by the police, was found on two mobile phones, three hard drives, and a USB stick. Each defendant is charged with four offenses: two counts of continuous sexual abuse with sexual access (one for each girl) and two counts of using a minor for the production of child pornography. At the time of the events, one of the victims was only five years old. The age of the other girl was not disclosed.
Prosecution’s Demands and Psychological Consequences
The prosecution is demanding not only the lengthy prison sentence but also the deprivation of parental custody for all minor children of the defendant for six years. Furthermore, compensation of 200,000 Euros is sought for the man’s daughter with the defendant, and 100,000 Euros for the defendant’s youngest daughter. An expert report confirms that the youngest girl suffers from behavioral and emotional functional disorders, underscoring the severity of the trauma endured.
Both defendants are already in pre-trial detention: the man since June 2022 and the woman since January 2023. B.A.L.P. also has prior convictions for crimes such as threats, violation of a restraining order, and disclosure of secrets, which further expands the scope of the case. The trial will continue to capture public attention in Spain and beyond.
