Cause of Accident: Unauthorized Spectator Area and Driving Error
According to the organization, the incident occurred during a critical phase of the race. The affected vehicle had previously shown a slight deviation in a left turn and then skidded in the subsequent, much tighter right turn. The rear of the car broke out, the vehicle spun around its own axis, and finally collided with the group of spectators.
The organizers emphasized in an initial statement that the group of spectators had been in an unauthorized location. This once again underlines the need to stay exclusively in the designated, secured areas at motorsport events to avoid endangering one’s own safety and that of others.
Outcome of the Accident: Bruises, Panic Attacks, but No Life-Threatening Injuries
In total, thirteen people had to be evacuated after the accident. The reported injuries included a broken shin, various bruises, and numerous panic attacks. Fortunately, there were no life-threatening injuries. Eight people were given immediate medical attention after the incident, four due to bruises and another four due to panic attacks.
The rally organization expressed its regret about the incident in an official statement and wished all those affected a speedy recovery: “During the third section, a vehicle went off track, hitting several people. The accident resulted in only eight people being evacuated, four of them due to bruises and another four with panic attacks. Fortunately, we do not have to lament any serious damage and wish those affected a speedy recovery.”
This incident is a stark reminder of the risks associated with motorsport events and underscores the importance of adhering to safety regulations by spectators and organizers alike. The Rallye Festival Hoznayo will thoroughly investigate the circumstances of the accident to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
