The Israeli Embassy in Spain has expressed its deep disappointment with the Sánchez government’s reaction to the recent Israeli attack on Iranian nuclear and military facilities. While Madrid condemned the “military escalation in the Middle East,” Israel accuses Spain of ignoring the existential threat posed by the Iranian nuclear program.
Spain’s Stance Ignores Existential Threat from Iran’s Nuclear Program
In a statement published on X (formerly Twitter), the Israeli Embassy sharply rejected the Spanish condemnation: “We reject and deeply regret the Spanish government’s statement, which completely ignores the existential threat to Israel posed by the Iranian nuclear program.” This clear message underscores the growing divide between the two nations in assessing regional security in the Middle East.
The embassy emphasized the seriousness of the situation for Israel and posed provocative questions to Spain: “Is Spain willing to live under the threat of a nuclear weapon, under the risk of annihilation, and under constant terrorism?” This alluded to the threat Israel believes it faces from Iran.
Rechazamos y lamentamos firmemente la declaración del gobierno español, que ignora por completo la amenaza existencial para Israel que representa el programa nuclear de Irán.

Is Spain Aware of the Iranian Nuclear Danger?
The Israeli representation further questioned whether Spain was aware of the Iranian nuclear enrichment program and its nuclear weapons potential, as well as the threat it poses to the entire region. This suggests that Israel perceives a lack of appreciation for the potential risks on the part of the Spanish government.
The embassy stated that it was already “accustomed to condemnations, unilateral and unfriendly policies” from the Spanish government. This indicates a long-standing diplomatic tension between Israel and Spain. Finally, the embassy defended Israeli military operations by arguing: “Israel, through its actions, is contributing to making Europe and Spain a safer place.” This statement aims to position Israeli security interests as an integral part of European security.
