The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (Aesan) has issued an urgent health warning: two popular fuet brands have been withdrawn from sale due to salmonella contamination. The affected products were sold in various Spanish supermarkets and could potentially pose a health risk.
Urgent Recall of Fuet Products in Spain
The warning was issued on June 20 at 3:00 PM, after the Catalan health authorities reported the incident via the Coordinated System for Rapid Information Exchange (SCIRI). The recall concerns sliced fuet products from the brands La Tabla and VALLDAN. This news affects consumers across Spain, as the products may have been distributed beyond the initially reported regions.

Which Fuet Batches Are Affected?
Consumers should pay close attention to the batch numbers to determine if they have affected products at home.
- La Tabla brand: Batches L5136 and L5140 are affected. These are sold in refrigerated 125-gram packages.
- VALLDAN brand: Batch L5134 must be recalled. These products are sold in refrigerated 12-gram packages.
The initial distribution of the contaminated fuet products took place in the Autonomous Communities of Catalonia, Castile and León, Madrid, and the Valencian Community. However, Aesan does not rule out that the fuet may have been distributed in other parts of the country.

Authorities’ Measures and Consumer Recommendations
Aesan immediately informed all competent authorities of the Autonomous Communities via the SCIRI system. The aim is to ensure the withdrawal of the affected products from supermarkets and other distribution channels.
What to Do in Case of Suspected Salmonella Infection?
The public is strongly urged to check the batch numbers of these fuet brands they have purchased. If you possess a product from one of the affected batches, do not consume it under any circumstances. Dispose of it immediately or return it to the supermarket.
If you have consumed one of the products from the affected batches and experience symptoms consistent with salmonellosis (primarily diarrhea and/or vomiting, accompanied by fever and headache), it is recommended to visit a health center immediately. Salmonellosis can have serious health consequences, especially for immunocompromised individuals, young children, and the elderly.
