The diesel price in Spain continued its upward trend this week, recording a 0.56% increase compared to the previous week. On the other hand, gasoline costs have remained unchanged for the third consecutive week. Specifically, the average price per liter of diesel has reached 1.432 euros, its highest value since early April, according to data from the European Union’s Oil Bulletin collected by Europa Press. The average price for gasoline, meanwhile, remains stable at 1.491 euros per liter, with no significant changes in the last three weeks. In 2025, the price of gasoline has decreased by 2.3% so far, while the price of diesel has fallen by 0.76%.
Fueling Up, Cheaper Than a Year Ago
At current prices, filling an average 55-liter diesel tank costs around 78.76 euros, which represents a saving of approximately 3.3 euros compared to the same period last year, when it cost around 82.11 euros. For gasoline vehicles, filling the same tank costs about 82 euros, compared to 89 euros a year ago, which represents a reduction of about 7 euros.
Currently, the diesel price is below the level before the Russian invasion of Ukraine, which began on February 24, 2022, when a liter cost 1.479 euros. Gasoline also remains below its price at that time, which was 1.591 euros per liter. Both fuels are still far from the all-time highs of July 2022, when gasoline reached 2.141 euros per liter and diesel reached 2.1 euros.
Diesel has now been priced lower than gasoline for 125 consecutive weeks, restoring the usual dynamic prior to the war in Ukraine. It should be remembered that this relationship reversed between August 2022 and mid-February 2023. The costs of fuels are influenced by a variety of factors, including their specific price, crude oil price, applicable taxes, raw material costs, logistics, and commercial margins. In addition, oil fluctuations are not passed on to the final consumer immediately but with a certain time lag. Today, the price of 95 octane unleaded gasoline in Spain is still below the EU average of 1.626 euros per liter and the Eurozone average of 1.677 euros. As for the diesel price, it is also below the European Union average (1.563 euros per liter) and the Eurozone average (1.591 euros).
