On May 30, a remarkable incident occurred on the A-2 motorway near Cervera in Lleida: a 70-year-old beekeeper was arrested by the Mossos (Catalan police) after attacking two traffic unit officers with hundreds of bees. The police officers subsequently had to be treated at a health center.
Bee Vengeance: Beekeeper Out of Control
The incident took place during a routine check by the Mossos on the A-2. Officers had stopped the beekeeper’s van because he was driving without a seatbelt and showed clear signs of intoxication. After a first positive alcohol test, the 70-year-old was asked to undergo a second test.
Instead of complying, the man went to the back of his van. There, he opened the doors and released hundreds of bees, which, according to the police report, he deliberately directed at the officers. A true bee attack that quickly escalated the situation.
Arrest and Charges: The Consequences of the Bee Attack
After the police managed to get the bee attack under control, the beekeeper was immediately arrested. He is now charged with assaulting police officers, driving under the influence of alcohol, and driving without a seatbelt. The two affected police officers received medical attention due to the numerous bee stings. This unusual incident highlights the unpredictable nature of traffic controls and the sometimes bizarre reactions they can provoke.
