A woman dies after being hit by a driverless bread delivery truck in Pontevedra

A 73-year-old woman (M.T.G.M.) died, while another woman, 52 (M.G.R.), was injured when they were struck by a bread delivery truck in the town of A Cañiza, Pontevedra.

According to a report by 112 Galicia, the incident occurred approximately ten minutes before 1:00 p.m. A private citizen alerted the emergency services and reported that a bread delivery truck had struck two people in O Portonaval, in the municipality of Petán.

According to the Integrated Emergency Response Center of Galicia (CIAE-112), the vehicle was stationary and driverless when it reversed and struck the two women.

As soon as the 112 operators learned of the incident, they informed the Galician Health Emergency Service 061, which mobilized a rescue helicopter from Ourense.

The doctor from the 061 could only confirm the death of the 73-year-old woman, while the other victim was taken by helicopter to the Álvaro Cunqueiro Hospital in Vigo. The health services also dispatched an ambulance to provide initial treatment and a follow-up team to the scene.

Members of the GES-SPEIS from Ponteareas also went to the scene. They were responsible for freeing the two women, along with agents from the Guardia Civil and the local police of A Cañiza.
