A new power outage paralyzed several stations on lines 5 and 6 of the Madrid Metro on Monday, just one week after the widespread outage that plunged the entire Iberian Peninsula into darkness. Specifically, the section between Porto and Campamento on Line 5 (Alameda de Osuna-Casa de Campo) and the section between Puerta del Ángel and Carpetana, the busiest line in the Madrid Metro, were affected.

Metro sources explained that a technical problem occurred at one of its substations around 9:30 a.m., affecting both lines. It was a “temporary” problem that lasted between seven and 15 minutes.

According to warnings posted by the Metro on social media, slow service was already occurring on Line 6 at 7:15 a.m., particularly between the Argüelles and Usera stations. This traffic jam soon spread to Sainz de Baranda and a few minutes later to Pacífico.

At around 9:45 a.m., train service on the branch between Ópera and Príncipe Pío stations was also interrupted in both directions, but service was restored just 10 minutes later.

At 10:00 a.m., the metro announced in a message on the social network “X” that the incident had been resolved and that intervals were now returning to normal.
