Businesses adjacent to the warehouse in the Gamarra industrial estate were evacuated due to the sheer scale of the fire, which ignited at 1:45 PM and, fortunately, caused no injuries. Firefighters are currently concentrating their efforts on preventing the flames from spreading to the factory’s oxygen tanks. Factory personnel were able to evacuate the premises, as confirmed by the Alava capital’s city council. The council has urged citizens to avoid traveling to the area unless absolutely necessary and recommends that residents of the nearby Abetxuko neighborhood remain indoors and keep windows and doors closed due to the smoke.
Apparently, the fire may have originated from a tanker truck transporting chemical products to the company, according to municipal sources. The entire Vitoria fire department has been dispatched to the scene, and the Nanclares park has been requested to assist. Members of the Ertzaintza, local police, and civil protection are also on site.
