A horse died suddenly this Saturday during the parade celebrating the bicentenary of the Els Tres Tombs in Barcelona. According to the municipality, this caused part of the route to be changed.

The event took place early in the morning on Parliament Street in the Catalan capital, where a horse collapsed and lay lifeless on the public road for reasons still unknown. As a result, the organizers decided to reroute the parade and route it through the city along Manso Street.

This Saturday, an impressive parade with more than 70 carriages, 200 horses, and 600 herdsmen marched through the streets of Barcelona to celebrate the bicentenary of the Els Tres Tombs and their 28th Annual Gathering.

The city of Barcelona, which this year received the distinction of being the Catalan capital of the Els Tres Graves, is now one of the 95 cities that are part of the Catalan Federation of Els Tres Graves. This federation is committed to preserving the tradition of transport and trade by mule drivers.

Mounted units of the Guardia Urbana of Barcelona and Reus (Tarragona) participated in the parade, as did the Mossos d’Esquadra, the horses of the “Colles” of Sant Medir, and eight Friesian horses representing the Catalan equestrian movement.

The parade, which began at 10:30 a.m. on Avinguda de la Reina Maria Cristina, honored the painter and writer Santiago Rusiñol, who traveled through Catalonia in 1889 with a cart and eight mules.
