The Cabildo de Tenerife will install surveillance cameras at the entrances to Teide National Park to regulate the flow of visitors. This was announced by the island’s President, Rosa Dávila, on Wednesday.

At a press conference held after the Governing Council meeting, Dávila explained that the installation of cameras and sensors will begin in the coming days. The aim of these measures is to control the flow of visitors and improve the park’s basic infrastructure.

For this initiative, which is being financed with €1.8 million from the Next Generation Funds, a cooperation agreement has been signed with the Ministry of Ecological Transition of the Government of the Canary Islands, Dávila added.

The work will be carried out by the public company Tragsa and is scheduled for completion by May 2026. The measures include the use of technology to regulate visitor numbers to prevent overuse of the park.

Dávila explained that a total of nine surveillance and capacity cameras will be installed at the four road access points and in the most heavily frequented areas. In addition, 30 measuring devices will be placed along strategically selected paths to record the number of visitors in real time.

In addition to visitor control measures, the investment also includes the improvement of basic infrastructure for public use. This includes the adaptation and maintenance of the national park’s 41 hiking trails, which total over 130 kilometers.

Furthermore, the 32 viewpoints and the area surrounding the Juan Évora Ethnographic Museum will be renovated. The Alto de Guamaso and Roques de García rest areas, two important starting points, will also be modernized.

Five information panels will also be installed to provide educational and informative content about the natural environment. Two of these panels will be redesigned and reprinted.
