At least one person was killed and 11 others were injured when a public bus carrying 21 passengers overturned in San Sebastián de La Gomera on Tuesday, according to sources from 112 Canarias.
All those affected have already been taken to the Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe Hospital, the emergency services announced via the social network X. Héctor Cabrera, the city’s emergency services councilor, explained in an interview with La Radio Canaria that “the situation is complicated.” He added that the San Sebastián health center was blocked off to accommodate the injured, and that specialists from the surrounding area were requested to join the ambulance to provide the necessary care.
The emergency service 112 Canarias received the report at 8:42 a.m. Three ambulances and a Canary Islands Ambulance helicopter were deployed to the scene of the accident, located at kilometer 3 of the GM-2. The Guardia Civil, the local police, a doctor and a nurse providing primary care, and volunteers from AEA La Gomera were also on site.
The town’s mayor, Angélica Padilla, asked residents not to approach the scene to facilitate evacuations. “It’s important to stay away from the scene because of the heavy ambulance traffic,” she said on the same radio program.
