A 48-year-old man from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria died on Sunday while taking a selfie on the terrace of a hotel in Las Canteras.
The tragedy occurred around 1:30 a.m. while the victim and a friend were out celebrating at a sky bar on the eighth floor of a hotel in La Puntilla. As the bar closed, the man leaned on the terrace railing to take a photo, lost his balance, and fell from a height of 25 to 30 meters.
Witnesses to the incident immediately alerted emergency services, but there was nothing they could do to save his life, as La Provincia reported. The National Police are investigating the incident as an accident and have already taken statements from the deceased’s companion and other people who were present at the time.
In addition, investigators have begun reviewing the hotel’s surveillance cameras to clarify the exact circumstances of the tragic event and to find out what situation the victim was in at the time of the fall.
