Local police have arrested four men from La Rioja for allegedly sexually assaulting a young woman on Malvarrosa Beach in Valencia. Officers arrested the suspects at 7:30 a.m. Sunday morning after a friend of the victim alerted police when a patrol car passed nearby.

The detainees, four men aged 18 to 20, were staying in Valencia for a few days over the May long weekend, police said. The group reportedly approached the victim near the Akuarelay nightclub and dragged her onto the beach, where they sexually assaulted her.

A friend of the young woman informed local police about the assault, which quickly enabled them to identify and locate the alleged attackers.

The four detainees deny the allegations and claim the sexual acts were consensual, a claim the victim vehemently denies. She claims that she was “groped” and fingered against her will on the beach.

Several patrols from the Security, Assistance, and Prevention Unit (USAP) and the Seventh Unit (Maritime Checkpoint) of the Valencia Local Police were dispatched to the scene to assist the victim.

The four young men were taken to the Central Guard Inspectorate (ICG) in the Zapadores complex, where the Scientific Police took their fingerprints. The Family and Women’s Services Unit (UFAM) of the Valencia National Police has taken over the investigation. They are accused of a crime of sexual assault.

The victim was transferred to a medical center according to protocol and examined in the gynecological service of a hospital in Valencia, as she reported experiencing finger penetration.
