Second Vice-President of the Government, Yolanda Díaz, warned US President Donald Trump on Monday that Spain is not his vassal and will not further increase military spending. She also criticized two of the highest officials of the European Union for wanting to “rearm Europe.”
“They will not give us orders, Mr. Trump will not tell Spain that it has to increase the defense budget to 5%. Mr. Trump, we are not your vassals and we will not raise it,” she said during the “Stop the Genocide” event, which took place in Madrid and was organized by the Sumar Movement party and the Left Group in the European Parliament.
She also attacked the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Policy, Kaja Kallas, and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, accusing them of attacking the founding spirit of the EU because they wanted to “rearm Europe.”
