Dozens of people carried out a symbolic action against mass tourism in Barcelona this Sunday. They “attacked” a tourist bus with water pistols and shouted slogans like “Tourists go home,” leaving those near the Sagrada Familia speechless.

As the newspaper El Nacional reports, the events took place specifically on Sardenja Street, one of the favorite spots for tourists. The protesters first positioned themselves in front of the bus, preventing it from moving, and then began to soak the vehicle’s occupants.

They also completely covered the front of the bus with a banner reading: “Let’s put out the tourist fire. June 15 – Day of the Fight Against Touristification.”

Some of the protesters wore masks, and all were part of various organizations and platforms from across Europe who traveled to Barcelona this very weekend to participate and debate in a forum on touristification.

The protesters also read a message denouncing all the problems of touristification and demanding various measures to stop it. They also affixed several stickers to their vehicles.

The events lasted about 10 minutes, with the Urban Guard quickly notifying the Mossos d’Esquadra, who went to the scene and arrested and identified the 20 people on the street.
