The Professional and Independent Association of Prosecutors (APIF) has demanded a drastic sentence in the case of Attorney General Álvaro García Ortiz: six years in prison and twelve years of disqualification from public office. The association, positioning itself as one of the main plaintiffs in this case, has proposed to the Supreme Court that García Ortiz be prosecuted for the crime of evasion in conjunction with a continuous crime of disclosure of secrets.
This demand stems from the indictment filed by lawyers Juan Antonio Frago, Verónica Suárez, and Napoleón Cánovas. The case is causing a stir across Spain and shines a light on the integrity of the highest legal offices.
Madrid’s Chief Prosecutor Also Under Scrutiny
However, it is not only Álvaro García Ortiz who is at the center of the accusations. The APIF is also demanding a four-year prison sentence and a twelve-year disqualification for Pilar Rodríguez, the Chief Prosecutor of the Province of Madrid. The association argues that she too is involved in the alleged crimes.
Comprehensive Evidence and Prominent Witnesses
To substantiate its allegations, APIF proposes a range of evidence to the court. This includes the testimonies of several high-ranking prosecutors, who are expected to shed light on internal processes and decisions. Journalists and lawyers are also named as witnesses, indicating a far-reaching investigation that extends beyond internal judicial structures.
Particularly noteworthy is the demand for testimonies from prominent figures such as Santos Cerdán, Juan Lobato, and Francesc Vallés. Their statements could be crucial in clarifying the connections and backgrounds of the alleged crimes. This case could have far-reaching consequences for the Spanish justice system and politics.
