Animal cruelty shock: Woman drowns her dog on Alicante beach

A distressing incident of animal cruelty has caused outrage in the province of Alicante. On Friday, a woman was arrested by local police in San Vicente del Raspeig at a veterinary clinic. She is accused of having drowned her own dog at Aguamarga dog beach in Alicante. Municipal sources confirmed the arrest, which followed observations by several witnesses and the swift response of the authorities.

Gruesome Details at the Dog Beach

The animal welfare party Pacma, which strongly condemned the incident on its website, describes the case as another act of extreme animal cruelty. The suspect, a French national, was observed by several people at the dog beach repeatedly and violently submerging the animal, preventing it from breathing. These cruel acts deeply shocked the witnesses and prompted them to intervene immediately.

Desperate Rescue Attempts and Tragic Outcome

When the witnesses realized the appalling situation, they confronted the woman about her brutal behavior. According to their testimonies, the dog owner eventually pulled the motionless animal out of the water by its leash. By then, the dog had already ingested a significant amount of water and showed no signs of life. The animal was immediately taken to a veterinary clinic in San Vicente del Raspeig, where it died shortly thereafter due to the severity of its injuries and trauma.

Investigations and Demands for Justice

Local police from San Vicente promptly rushed to the veterinary center and arrested the woman. Proceedings have been initiated against her on suspicion of a crime of animal cruelty. In addition to the police investigations, formal complaints have been filed by both an eyewitness and the animal welfare organization Asoka el Grande, which has actively become involved in the case. The proceedings, as confirmed by the municipal administration, will continue in court.

Javier Luna, the national leader of Pacma, strongly condemned the events and emphatically called for justice for the killed animal. He emphasized: “This event once again underscores the urgent need to stiffen the penalties for animal cruelty in the Penal Code. Current legislation is neither deterrent nor does it offer animals real protection against this kind of atrocity.” Pacma demands a reform that recognizes animal cruelty as a serious crime and punishes it appropriately to prevent future atrocities and grant animals the protection they deserve.
