“Chaos in the Sun”: Neo-Nazi Festival Stirs Up Barcelona – Police on High Alert

The annual neo-Nazi festival "Chaos in the Sun" attracts skinheads from all over Europe to the coast of Barcelona and ensures massive police presence

The infamous neo-Nazi music festival “Chaos in the Sun” is once again gathering supporters of the far-right scene this weekend at a private farmhouse in Maresme, near Santa Susanna, Barcelona. Despite great secrecy, the event’s poster, featuring international Oi! and far-right bands, has surfaced on social media. The organizer is once again the Pawnees MC Maresme motorcycle club, closely linked to the skinhead movement.

Heightened Security Measures and Ongoing Social Outrage

The Mossos d’Esquadra and local police have launched a reinforced security operation to ensure public order and prevent confrontations. The presence of security forces will be significantly increased around the farmhouse, in nightlife districts, and hotels in Calella, where many festival-goers are accommodated. Although the police classify the alert level as “minimal” and incidents from previous years as “not serious,” public outrage and antifascist groups are growing, denouncing “institutional passivity” in the face of the unpunished display of Nazi symbolism and hate speech.

Outrage in Calella Over Festival Attendees’ Presence

The arrival of festival participants in Calella, identifiable by their aesthetics and far-right symbols, has caused concern among residents. Mayor Marc Buch of Calella has made it clear that the participants are “not welcome,” although he admits they are staying in at least one hotel in the city and have even rented premises for private parties. Buch expressed his regret that business people are dealing with this clientele, who “defend totalitarian positions and tarnish the city’s image.”

Antifascist Response and Political Condemnation

Organizations such as the Assemblea de Joves d’Arenys de Mar have warned about the presence of festival-goers in the region and called for vigilance. Last year, the Maresme District Council adopted an institutional declaration “rejecting fascism” and condemning any activity that violates fundamental rights or promotes racism, xenophobia, genocide, or discrimination. The declaration, supported by Junts, ERC, CUP, En Comú Podem, Ara Pacte Local, and PSC, emphasizes that such ideologies “are incompatible with a true democracy and must be rejected by society.”
