A shocking act has rocked Bilbao: A 13-year-old girl was allegedly killed by her mother’s 43-year-old partner, who then committed suicide. The Ertzaintza (Basque police) is investigating this horrific case as a suspected incident of vicarious violence.

Discovery of Bodies and Ongoing Investigation

In the early hours of Friday morning, the bodies of the man and the girl were found in a home in the Rekalde district of the Biscayan capital. Both showed signs of violence, presumably caused by a knife. The child’s mother was taken to a health center with injuries.

The Bilbao Municipal Police alerted the Ertzaintza around 5:08 AM after a wounded woman was rescued from the house. A serious incident of gender-based and domestic violence had occurred there. Municipal police officers, who assisted the woman, found the two lifeless bodies in the apartment.

Details of the Crime and Police Actions

According to reports from the newspaper “El Correo,” citing municipal police sources, an argument between the couple is believed to have preceded the incident. The alleged perpetrator reportedly threatened to kill the woman and her daughter if they did not leave the house.

“When officers arrived at the apartment in the Larraskitu neighborhood of Bilbao, they broke down the door because no one answered,” “El Correo” reports. They found the girl dead in bed, with her throat slit and covered with sheets. The man was found in a bathroom, where he had hanged himself. The Ertzaintza has taken over the investigation, and specialized units are conducting a detailed visual inspection at the crime scene.

The tragic events in Bilbao once again highlight the devastating consequences of domestic and gender-based violence.
